Fundación Málaga, together with Cajamar and Turismo Andaluz, sponsored the murals that the painter Evaristo Guerra made in the Hermitage of Nuestra Señora de los Remedios in Vélez-Málaga (2003-2007).

Among the different religious representations we can mention the Cristo del Mar or the Virgen de la Piedad with a boy who carries a basket of bread —a figure in which the artist portrays himself at the age of thirteen— and among the popular and traditional ones we find some women filling their jugs in a fountain, the collection of the sugar cane or a characteristic scene of Málaga, such as some fishermen pulling out the cod-end.

These scenes are set in a landscape that reproduces the real and natural environment of La Axarquía, which surrounds the hermitage.

During this artistic project Evaristo Guerra, guided by his passion for the Virgen de los Remedios and his love of painting, has turned the walls of the hermitage into large canvases, contributing to enriching the heritage of Vélez-Málaga and enhancing its cultural and tourist qualities.
