The Archaeodrome “Cerro del Villar”, a groundbreaking installation in Málaga which was located in Plaza Mayor Leisure Centre, Málaga  is a recreation of the Phoenician archaeological site “Cerro del Villar”, and was designed in such a way as to enable schoolchildren to discover the remains of everyday life in the colony, digging and finding the foundations of a house, the burnt remains of a ceramic oven and various household utensils.

About 2.500 students from primary schools in Málaga, Alhaurín de la Torre, Alhaurín el Grande, Cártama and Torremolinos towns close to the location of the Phoenician site of Cerro del Villar, located at the mouth of the Guadalhorce River (Málaga) have visited the Archaeodrome and have played at being «archaeologists for a day», carrying out excavation activities in which they have found reproductions of Phoenician pottery and goldsmith’s work. This activity took place from March 3 to May 19, 2006, and its objective was for schoolchildren to discover and learn about the life of our ancestors in an enjoyable, simple and entertaining way.

The visit to the Archaeodrome was complemented by a Phoenician exhibition on the Cerro del Villar called “Málaka: Fundación de una Ciudad Millenaria”, where faithful Phoenician ceramic reproductions of its originals, found in this site, were exhibited. This exhibition has registered a large number of visitors: 60,400 visitors. The exhibition was completed with the screening of a documentary about the Phoenician people, ”Málaka Fenicia”.
